OCTOBERFEST

This event is a time for members to invite spouses and friends to a festive German Beer Garden atmosphere with traditional German food, beer drinking, and live polka music.  Octoberfest starts the new club year and serves as a time to get reacquainted after the summer break. This is not a fundraiser.

TRASH TO TREASURE

This is one of our major fundraisers.  It is held the first weekend in November and is open to the public.  Members donate clothes, household items, furniture, collectibles, and other miscellaneous items.  A boutique section features finer clothes, shoes, and handbags. CHRISTMAS GALA

A festive holiday dinner utilizing members’ decorated tables from the previous day’s General Meeting.   It is held the evening after the December meeting. Members often invite friends and family to join them in this non-hosted event.

CARD PARTY

FGWC holds one card party a year.  This is a fundraising event and a lot of fun.  Attendees can participate in Bridge, Bunco, and Mahjongg   Lunch is served, and participants are given the opportunity to win raffle prizes.

ANTIQUE SHOW AND SALE

This is a major fundraiser for FGWC which is a three-day event held in the spring.  Vendors purchase space in our Clubhouse to sell their antiques, memorabilia, and collectibles. Members contribute collectible items for our silent auction table.  Salads, sandwiches, and pie are available for purchase.

The party is held the night before the show with an                             opportunity for early shopping. Members and their guest may attend this non-hosted event.

ART & FLOWER SHOW & RECIPROCITY TEA

This spring event is our gift to the community.  Invitations and flyers are distributed to the local community.  While enjoying a beautiful traditional high tea, guests have the opportunity to enjoy members’ decorated tables and their artistic displays.

FASHION SHOW AND SILENT AUCTION:

Our last fundraiser before our summer break is held in the spring. We feature local business’ fashions and use members as models.  Ticket price includes an afternoon of lunch, fashions, and an opportunity to bid on Silent Auction items. The event is open to the public.

LITTLE FREE LENDING LIBRARY

We have two little libraries at Mental Health Systems.  Appropriate books are provided to the children’s and the adult libraries each month.  The books are donated or purchased with funds given to FGWC.

READING PROGRAM

This project is conducted at Rescue the Children which is a division of the Fresno Rescue Mission.  Our volunteer members have been reading a minimum of once a month with the children since 2015. Readings are held every Wednesday and Friday throughout the year.

SHINE

The project was started in 2016 and is operated through the Fresno Rescue Mission.  The mothers who reside at Rescue the Children receive our assistance in building confidence while they’re getting ready to graduate from the Fresno Rescue Mission Program and becoming gainfully employed.

BOOK TALK

Open to all members.  Members discuss books they are reading or interested in reading with other participants.  It is held on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

KNITTING ’N NEEDLES

Open to all members.  Do you like to play with threads?  Knit, crochet, embroider, etc. – or want to learn?  Join members on the 3rd Monday of the month.

OUT TO LUNCH BUNCH

This is a great way to keep connected over the summer.  Participation is optional. This is an opportunity to join other members and their friends for lunch at many of the restaurants in the Fresno/Clovis area.  Non-hosted prices vary.

BRIDGE MARATHON

Here’s an opportunity to play bridge every month.  Scores are accumulated over the year, with prizes presented in May at the Marathon Luncheon.  Participants must join the group prior to the schedule being set in the fall.

CHRISTMAS TREE LANE WALK NIGHT:

The club does a cookie handout at one of the two walk nights.  Cookies are provided by members. A donation box is displayed on the cookie table and all donations raised are given to help (Fig Garden Homeowners Association) with Lane expenses for next year.

GET ACQUAINTED COFFEE

FGWC holds two coffees a year.  It is an opportunity to gather in a member’s home to get to know other members.  The committee provides finger foods and refreshments.

Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, October through May.  The General Meeting includes lunch, a guest speaker, and a business meeting.

Meetings are held on the 1st Monday of the month.  All members are welcome.  All Club business is discussed at this meeting.  Committee chairpersons and officers are expected to attend.
